Employing the latest in NIKKOR technology, the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR is crafted with two fluorite lens elements combined with magnesium alloy in the lens barrel, allowing for superior durability and significant weight reduction resulting in the world’s lightest*1 500mm*2 f/4 super-telephoto lens at approximately 3090g. A Nano Crystal Coat, which features nano-sized crystal particles that effectively reduces flares and ghosting, works in tandem with two fluorite lens elements and Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass elements. EMPLOYING TWO FLUORITE LENS ELEMENTS REALIZES AN OUTSTANDINGLY LIGHT BODY
Weight is approx. 3,090 g, lighter than the current AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR by approx. 790 g, with a length shorter by approx. 4 mm. This facilitates composition change even for quickly moving subjects and enables easy transportation. Magnesium alloy adopted for the lens barrel also contributes to durability and light weight.

Image blur caused by camera shake is effectively reduced by the built-in Vibration Reduction function. In the evolved NORMAL mode, when the camera is set on, a half-press of the shutter-release button instantly activates the VR function for improved blur-reduction effect.

IMPROVED VR PERFORMANCE IN NORMAL MODE WHEN THE POWER IS ON
VR performance immediately after the power is turned on with the VR mode set to NORMAL has been improved, providing a more stable viewfinder image and enhanced blur-reduction effect on the resulting images.
SPORT MODE IS ADOPTED AS A VR MODE OPTION TO COPE WITH QUICK MOVEMENTS
SPORT mode is especially effective when shooting sports, for example, in which subjects are radically moving. This mode has also been enhanced so that a more stable image can be viewed even when tracking a moving subject.
IMPROVED AF TRACKING CAPABILITY
AF tracking performance has been significantly improved for the shooting of subjects with unpredictable movement, such as those slightly moving, moving at random speeds or approaching the camera at high speed.
ELECTROMAGNETIC DIAPHRAGM MECHANISM IS ADOPTED
A diaphragm blade unit with drive mechanism is incorporated in the lens barrel, enabling diaphragm control via electric signals from the camera body. This ensures stable AE control even during high-speed continuous shooting.
TRIPOD COLLAR RING UTILIZING BEARINGS FOR SMOOTH SWITCHING OF CAMERA ORIENTATION
