Using a simple switch, its focal length range of 180-400mm expands to 560mm with the convenience of a built-in 1.4x teleconverter (TC), perfect for covering subjects of ranging distances easily on the field. Weighing just 3500g, its ease of use is accompanied by a steady reliability. You will always get the most out of your shoot, no matter the conditions. Fluorine coating on the lens reinforces dust and drip resistance, and contributes to a high antifouling performance. With the optical design providing exceptionally clear images of minimised ghosting and unwanted flare, and an improved autofocus (AF) tracking with an evolved Vibration Reduction (VR) performance for a faster and more precise focus on your images, the lens will quickly become a staple in your kit wherever you go.
JUMP INTO THE ACTION WITH EASE
Capture both near and distant subjects in the field with a single lens—the ultimate agility. Covering 180-400mm focal length, with an expanded 20mm on the wide-angle side1, a single push of a finger will extend it further to 252-560mm2 using the built-in 1.4x TC. If you’re looking to cover even further, simply attaching the lens to a DX-format camera super-extends the focal length equivalent to that of a 270-600mm lens in 35mm format; 378-840mm when using the built-in TC. With the smooth controls optimally designed according to shooting posture, your focus will remain uninterrupted throughout the day to help you get closer to capturing the perfect moments.
ENGINEERED TO CAPTURE THE FINEST DETAILS
Every minute detail is yours to capture, with the highest maximum reproduction ratio of 0.25x3 at the minimum focus distance of 2m throughout the entire zoom range. Optimized perfectly for high-megapixel digital cameras, achieve high-resolution images across the entire frame regardless of focal length—even at the maximum aperture or when it is stopped down. The superior optical performance, with Nano Crystal Coat utilised to retain high transmittance, is crafted with 27 elements in 19 groups (including eight lens elements for TC) and one protective glass; which includes a fluorite lens element, and eight ED glass elements to give your images the absolute clarity they deserve.
GET UP TO SPEED WITH THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY
Upgrades such as a higher-speed inversion AF drive and an enhanced drive control algorithm of the AF motor, for more accurate subject tracking based on AF detection, will help you easily follow fast-moving subjects of different speeds on the field. The high subject acquisition capability, even in the peripheral areas of the frame4, is boosted further with the evolved VR effect equivalent to a shutter speed 4.0 stops5 faster regardless of the built-in TC usage. With VR [SPORT] mode in effect, keeping up with the quick and erratic movements of your subjects for an easier framing is a feat that you’ll be sure to appreciate.
